Faculty Position in Thermal Science and Engineering
Applications are sought for a tenure-track faculty position in Thermal Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the Department of Mechanical Engineering starting September 2017 or on a mutually agreed upon date thereafter.
Candidates are encouraged from all areas of the broad and diverse field of Thermal Science including thermodynamics, heat and mass transfer, thermochemical processes and combustion with applications in the fields of energy, propulsion, and thermal engineering. Areas of interest include but are not limited to: (i) energy system analysis and optimization, energy conversion, energy efficiency, and energy storage; (ii) surface processes where coupling of transport and chemistry is critical; (iii) fundamental thermal science, and heat and mass transport; (iv) water purification and environmental contaminants; (v) automotive engineering and transportation systems; and (vi) alternative fuels.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering is committed to fostering interdisciplinary research that can address grand challenges facing our society. We seek candidates who will provide inspiration and leadership in research, contribute proactively to both undergraduate and graduate level teaching in the Mechanical Engineering department and add to the diversity of the academic community.
Appointment will be at the assistant or untenured associate professor level. A senior faculty appointment may be considered in special cases. Candidates must hold an earned Ph.D. by the beginning of employment and have research experience in an area related to Mechanical Engineering by the beginning of employment.
